In the last 11 years Americans have experienced hardships, downturns, and phobias of all kinds. No one group is untouched by America's domestic issues and current transition. National Unemployment rate is 9.1% (May 2011) and 14.8% (43.6 Million) are uninsured without Health Care.

There is no simple solution in resolving America's issues. "People Helping People" can help revive the hearts of Americans, by Neighbors simply providing Neighborly Needs (Small Kindnesses). The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity has started a 2012 grassroots and online campaign for awareness of a simple ethic - sincere generosity. We would like to reach out to the American People; who desire to re-iterate negativity and counteract phobias by organizing around simple goodness.

"People Helping People” is a campaign for communities to embrace humanitarian projects, which target the disadvantaged – the unsheltered, unemployed and the mentally ill. H-Day is a model of Social Empowerment and Economic Development, SEED, which is an ILM division. We are generating active resources for institutionalizing local relief efforts.

The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity (CPHD) expanded in 2004 initiating its focus on Californian cities such as Downtown LA, Orange County, Long Beach, Fresno and Oakland – where the cities' homeless population appears to be the most impoverished and vulnerable groups in our nation. Humanitarian Day is a wonderful way to organize people and organizations who have been blessed with resources and time to share those blessings with the needy.

“People Helping People” delivers an innate social message for responsibility in the United States. Convert One Day into a Life’s Mission an advocacy not just for homelessness, as well as education and addressing socio-economic policies that divide the people's unity and effectiveness. Procuring resources and ideas such as; revive employment strategies, healthcare needs, the basics, hygienic care and other relevant necessities according to local demographic research.

"Assume the position and gain the victory!"

Note: the "People Helping People" Hygiene Kit, which started in July 2011, has already generated over a 1000 hygiene kits for local relief. This drive is coordinated by the CPHD High School Youth Leaders and New Leadership in Los Angeles and Orange County, empowerment.

The Humanitarian Day Organization is very unique within its thought process. We focus on the service and the people, by remaining sincere and relevant.
Help your family, neighbors, co-workers with Small Kindnesses (within your means). Correct your behavior before correcting the next person.
Stabilize mental behaviors and physical desires in a paradigm of coordinated discipline and/ or productive respected mannerism; such as Ramadan, the Holidays or Hanukkah - according to your belief or faith that promotes us being a better person (for a year round nature).

People Helping People Hygiene Drive

The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity presents our 11th Annual Humanitarian Day. We are very grateful to all volunteers for your activism over the past 10 years. In 2011 we would like to develop more community activity for this year's events.

There is "strength" in numbers and We Need Your Help...

Our objective is create 3500 Hygiene Kits for distribution during Humanitarian Days in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Orange County and the Inland Empire.

We are asking Youth Groups, Families and Organizations to please donate and collect "Travel Size - Items Only" (New and Unused) such as:

Hand Lotion and Sanitizer

Mini First Aid Kit

2011 Ramadhan Humanitarian Day

Humanitarian Day® (H-Day) is a community service project, which targets the disadvantaged of our society – the unsheltered, unemployed and uninsured. The custodianship of H-Day has been led by the ILM Foundation. H-Day is a model of Social Empowerment and Economic Development SEED, an ILM division. We are generating active resources for institutionalizing local relief efforts since 2000. H-Day campaigns a social message for responsibility in the United States. Convert One Day into a Life’s Mission an advocacy for homelessness, education and the socio-economic division policies. Procuring resources for free items such as; healthcare needs, food, clothing, blankets, toys and other relevant care according to local demographic research.

In the past 10 years the Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity embodies the Muslim community and Interfaith organizations, for the engagement of serving humanity. H-Day has become a bonding force, serving others during the month of Ramadhan an event uniting communities like no other event during the year. As custodians of domestic and international collaborations; our objective is, “Organize and Advocate for Awareness, Assistance and Change.”

The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity and Humanitarian Day, are very thankful to The Employees Community Fund of The Boeing Company. Providing a grant for the ongoing work of Humanitarian Day, helping "Convert One Day into a Life's Mission."

The Employees Community Fund of The Boeing Company (known as ECF or the Fund) is a unique employee-owned and directed giving program that allows employees to support the needs of their local communities via tax-deductible recurring payroll deductions or one-time gifts.

Humanitarian Day a direct service project, founded by the ILM Foundation. H-Day is a model of Social Empowerment and Economic Development (SEED) conceptually to generate activity and resources for procuring local relief efforts. H-Day a California campaign since 2000, currently advocates its social outreach domestically and international territories. Our mission addresses; homelessness, education and social division. Procuring resources for direct service distribution – with free items such as; health care, food, clothing, blankets, and women products.

Employee contributions are either directed to an ECF pooled fund or to an eligible nonprofit of the employee's choice through payroll deductions or one-time gifts. Boeing pays all administrative costs for the Fund so that 100% of every employee dollar contributed goes to support the community. More than 4,000 nonprofit organizations benefit each year from the average $31 million in employee contributions each year.

ECF is actually made up of many locally owned, employee-managed pooled funds at more than 60 sites around the world. Each Fund tailors its giving to meet community needs.

Funding decisions for the pooled funds are the sole responsibility of local ECF boards or committees in accordance with the best interests of the community and its membership. Board and committee members perform their duties on an unpaid volunteer basis, usually spending a good deal of personal time on their duties.

Each ECF board and committee is responsible for carefully studying organizations that appeal for support in accordance with all governing Boeing policies, regulations and operating procedures. Additionally, local ECF boards and committees are responsible for all follow-up, decision making and reporting to its membership and we are appreciative to have been approved for our service, THANK YOU....

Muslim Student Union encourages fasting for a cause | Daily Trojan

The Muslim Student Union and the Ansar Service Partnership will hold a charity event called the Hassan Hathout Fastathon on Wednesday and invite all students from any background to participate.
The FastaThon is a one-day event when Muslim students find non-Muslim volunteers to abstain from food, drink and sexual relations from sunrise to sunset, according to Ansar Service Partnership Interfaith Coordinator Sarrah Shahawy.

For each non-Muslim who agrees to participate in the event, several businesses and donors have decided to either donate a certain amount of money per volunteer or make a flat donation. The proceeds go to a non-profit organization that helps homeless communities on Skid Row.

This year, the charities receiving the Fastathon donations will be the ILM Foundation and the Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity, organizations that sponsor a yearly event called Humanitarian Day.
During this day, several organizations representing different faiths will collaborate to provide items such as clothes, food and hygiene kits to Skid Row residents, Director of Muslim Student Life Ali Mir said.
“By fasting, we are putting ourselves in the position of those who are starving and thirsty. The ILM Foundation aims to help exactly these people and show that all people deserve the same dignity and respect no matter where their path in life might have led them,” said Taha Syed, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering.
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast to practice self-control and learn spirituality, humility and empathy for those who go hungry every day, Shahawy said.

By holding the Fastathon, the Muslim Student Union and Ansar Service Partnership encourage other USC students to share this tradition and to help raise awareness about the hunger and poverty present not only around Los Angeles but also surrounding the USC campus, Shahawy said.

“We feel that being aware of the suffering of our community and working to alleviate it is at the heart of what it means to be Muslim and what it means to be a USC Trojan,” Shahawy said. Students said they believe the Fastathon is a way to encourage community and individual awareness.

“To me, fasting is a great way to reflect upon my potential to be in control of my actions,” said Raza Baqai, an undeclared sophomore. Usually, there are anywhere from 200 to 500 students across the university who participate, and all students are encouraged to pledge, no matter their background, said Sahawy.

“Based on what I saw at last year’s Fastathon, and knowing how fast the club is expanding this year, I fully expect it to be a huge event for USC students, one that encourages growth of the community and also awareness of what actions are the basis of Islam,” Syed said.

Hassan Hathout Fast-a-thon w/ USC's Muslim Student Union and Ansar Service Partnership

On November 3, 2010 USC's academic good will ambassadors, Muslim Student Union and the Ansar Service Partnership; held the Hassan Hathout Fast-a-thon. Both Muslim and Non Muslim,faculty members, students and parents all observed patience from sunrise to sunset in unity; some for the first time. Ending the day at Masjid Omar Ibn Al Khattab in Los Angeles with breaking the fast with a healthy snack, salat (prayer) and a banquet dinner. In Association with the Hassan Hathout Foundation, the organizations were able to bridge American cultures and bring awareness to Los Angeles homeless problem. The group and its participants were able to fund raise a gift presented to local organization ILM Foundation, founders of Humanitarian Day; a direct service program for homelessness.

The ILM Foundation's mission for Humanitarian Day is, "Convert One Day into a Life's Mission" would like to thank USC's Muslim Student Union and Ansar Service Partnership and the event sponsors; The USC Office of Religious Life, USC Interfaith Council and Omar Ibn Al Khattab for its combined leadership and consideration of their community.

Collectively organizing of supporting resources; both intra and interfaith organizations for effective collaborations that serves the homeless with “Dignity, Love and Respect.” On Sunday September 5th in Downtown Los Angeles; the ILM Foundation and the CPHD will host its 10th Annual Humanitarian Day (HD) a health fair for the homeless, jobless and uninsured.

Since 2000, founding organization ILM Foundation has organized events serving the needy, where line items are distributed such as; hygiene kits, warm meals, clothing and medical services by the Umma Community Clinic; all are administered and given free of charge. Over the past 10 years HD has been hosted in over 20 cities nationwide serving a collective count of 60, 000 people and have accounted for nearly 20, 000 volunteers participated. International efforts covering African countries such as; Ghana and Indonesia with annual events, will soon add more sites. “Convert One Day into a Life’s Mission” is the CPHD’s intention of developing a universal system of direct social services which will include job training, health care and education services.

Humanitarian Day will also be hosted in Oakland, California; Santa Ana in Orange County, the Inland Empire and Long Beach are all scheduled for events this Ramadan; the first starting right before fasting days with Baltimore, Maryland on August 7th. A Humanitarian Day event is “Faith in Action” counteracting negative stereotypes of Muslims in America. The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity (CPHD) is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization established in 2002 to coordinate activities that bring people together from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. The type of events CHPD sponsors focus increasing awareness and providing humanitarian aid. The coalition members are bonded together to serve humanity with love, respect and dignity. The original members of the CPHD included the ILM Foundation and the UMMA Community Clinic. CPHD represents well over 20 faith and non-faith based organizations. What is the Humanitarian Day for the Homeless?

Every Ramadan since 2001, the Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity holds a one-day fair in Downtown Los Angeles in which hot meals, blankets, ponchos, new clothing items, toys and health care services are provided for the homeless free of charge. Ramadan, which signifies the Holiest month on the Islamic calendar is referred as a month of charity. Serving those in need exemplifies the ideas of helping humanity in a dignified manner. CPHD focuses on Downtown LA's homeless population as they are the most impoverished and vulnerable group Southern California. Humanitarian Day is a wonderful way for people who have been blessed with wealth and free time to share those blessings with the needy. In 2004, during the 3rd Annual Humanitarian Day of the Homeless nearly 5,000 homeless persons were distribute emergency relief items. One homeless person said after receiving a gift bag during humanitarian day, “Yesterday, I felt like nobody cared, this event is an answer to a prayer.”

For the past 10 years Humanitarian Day (HD) has serviced Southern California locations as Ontario and Santa Ana of Orange County to Northern California in such cities as Bakersfield, Oakland and San Jose. In 2005 the first organization outside of Los Angeles to host HD was Rahima Foundation in San Jose. The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity welcomes NewGround fellow, Maya Barron, as Jewish Outreach Coordinator for Humanitarian Day (HD) 2010. HD are yearly health care events held in Southern California for Los Angeles homeless and under served communities. The ILM Foundation is excited and humbled to work alongside NewGround’s leadership increasing Jewish-Muslim relations here in Los Angeles. Over the past 10 years, this is a confirmation of HD’s statements “Faith into Action and Convert One Day into a Life’s Mission” and we look forward to establish even more healthy relationships inside the interfaith community.

NewGround a Muslim-Jewish Dialog coordinated by Progressive Jewish Alliance and Muslim Public Affairs Council; directed by Azizah Hasan (MPAC) and Malka Haya Fenyvesi (PJA). This dialog fits the social model of Humanitarian Day's interfaith outreach and signifies progress along the lines of collaboration and networking with valuable Los Angeles and national organizations. Humanitarian Day 3rd Year in Orange County

The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity has created special relationships through Humanitarian Day (HD) events; both Muslim and Interfaith communities. Since its conception, HD has countered the negative public identity of Muslim Americans post 9/11 and established a character reflecting; a religious obligation of charitable good will for mankind. Not just HD, but along with coalition partners of various organizations; are all in pursuit of expressing a combined Muslim narrative of valuable historic contributions. Humanitarian Day will continue the work of preserving dignity.

On Friday April 16, 2009 the Orange County Islamic Foundation met with ILM Foundation, HD founders, to discuss plans for the 3rd Annual Humanitarian Day in Orange County. In a 2006 report Orange County has just over 35,000 people who have experienced homelessness, this annual event normally held in OC's Santa Ana Civic Center is making a positive impact upon the people of Orange County.

"2010 Marks 10 Years of Service!" In a decade together we have served 27 U.S. domestic cities, providing for nearly 60,000 people with close to 20,000 dedicated volunteers. An accomplishment only our Creator has provided, for it is He that grows our model of Social Empowerment Educational Development (SEED™).

Southern Californian cities has the largest count of homelessness in United States, and HD will continue serving such locations as; Downtown Los Angeles Skid Row (10th year), South Central (3rd year), Long Beach and Pasadena (2nd year) areas.

Humanitarian Day an event reflecting the conscience of moral humanity in providing necessary materials and medical attention, most people take for granted. We are greatly humbled to have made it this far, serving and preserving the character of sincere and dedicated people. We have two words for everyone "THANK YOU".

H-Day Ontario 2009

Ontario, CA - Humanitarian Day came to the Inland Empire for the first time on September 5th, 2009 and was held at the Mercy House in Ontario, CA. Nine organizations, including the coordinating organization: UPLIFT, came together to participate in the event. The 50 volunteers, many of them fasting, weathered 108 degree heat to serve 190 underprivileged individuals.

Volunteers passed out Water, T-Shirts, hygiene kits, back to school supplies, newborn essentials and toys to participants before directing them to the free health screenings and hot lunch areas.

Participants had an opportunity to receive free health screenings as well as receive medical, dental, vision and pharmaceutical consultation. The health services were provided and organized by Al Shifa Clinic, in San Bernardino, and American Muslim Health Professionals AMHP).

The response and feedback from the event was tremendous and the growing need in the area makes the continuance of this event in the Inland Empire a priority.

H-Day Las Vegas 2009

Humanitarian Day Las Vegas focused on cultiviating youth activism during the month of Ramdan. The Coaliton to Preserve Human Dignity (CPHD) joined a network of volunteers and sponsors to host the 4th Annual Humanitarian Day Las Vegas. CPHD particpants included Masjid As Sabur, Al Maun Foundation, ILM Foundation, www.LVMuslim.com, Omar Hikal Academy, Muslim Cub Scouts, Green Machine Youth Football program and Masjid Ibrahim.

The Day began with the Muslim cub scouts delivering a large truck load donation of toys and clothing collected during Ramadan from the Omar Hikal Academy Muslim community. It was a remarkable sight to see over 20 youth along with parents working side by side emptying the truck and organizing the collected good for the community to select what the desired.

Some of the youth were fasting. Imam Fateen, Director of Al Maun Foundation and Imam Naim Shah Jr, National Director of ILM, coordinated the orientation, which explained the background of Humanitarian Day and the days activity. After the orientation the youth were inspired to build their muscles by helping others. Collective a team of over thirty volunteers organized the outdoor Humanitarian Day neighborhood store. Br. Asad, HD vounteer, organized the half mile community clean up. It was great to witness a transformation of areas full of dirt but after the Humanitarian Day team finished the area was clean.

It was great, community residents appeared very proud to see this effort. One community member said, " It great to see people take care of this community that is so often neglected". During our closing secession ILM and Al Maun Foundation on behalf of CPHD presented community grant to the Green Machine Youth Football team to assist youth avoid negative elements in the community by committing themselves to athletics and academics. CPHD would like to give special thanks to Dr. Hilal for offering his services for youth sports physicals. The entire day included service, cleaning, health and putting our faith into actions.

H-Day Indonesia 2009

Humanitarian Day Indonesia 2009 have been done successfully! The team made several events such as food charity, short course on cacao (based on natural potential and villagers' need), Short Qur'an school for kids, and Tabligh Akbar (sermon). We chose to conduct this year's HD in a relatively remote place, a village about 4000 high from sea level, and Masya Allah (God So Will Good) the response was very warm!
We will make a full report inshaAllah (God Willing) soon after Eid, but for now I'll just dash you some of the pictures we took yesterday and today. All this can not be done without the patience, generosity, and duas (supplications) from brothers and sisters of ILM! Please let them know that we, and the recipient of HD are very grateful for this great opportunity to share, and we can not give you anything in return but to pray that Allah would grant you all doors to Jenna and that Allah accepts and doubles your good deeds, and may Allah forgive all our sins, Aamiin!

Humanitarian Day Downtown Los Angeles

On Sunday September 12, 2009 in Downtown Los Angeles, the homeless capital of America, during the last 10 days of Ramadan; there was something different about to happen. Aside of Skid Row’s normal events of organizations and smaller groups serving a population in need, the people started recognizing the annual transformation of Towne Avenue saying, “the Muslims are back!”; and began watching a small band of believers and its inter-faith family known together as The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity (CPHD) began setting the stage for an obligated effort of contributions, to address a domestic issue affecting nearly 600,000 (endhomeless.org) displaced Americans.

The 9th Annual Humanitarian Day (H-Day) founded by the ILM Foundation in 2001; opened a distribution line of hot meals and water, new socks, hygiene kits, medical screenings and more. After the 9/11 attack the United States’ Muslim community needed to counteract the misleading statements about Al Islam as well as the press character assassinations of Muslims which subsequently created Islamic phobia. Founder of the ILM Foundation Imam Saadiq Saafir clearly stated, “We do not need to say anything, but we need to do something; by putting faith into action.” Since 2001 Humanitarian Day has served 60,000 people in over 21 American cities which include Washington DC, New York, New Orleans and at least four African countries.

Executive Director Naim Shah Jr., CPA said, “Preserving human dignity is our main purpose and a birth right, informing society of this domestic illness should hopefully stimulate more activities in assisting our local governments with homelessness.” It was important for the CPHD to cultivate California - from Los Angeles to Oakland with H-Day events, collectively serving nearly 2500 people; 1200 recipients in Los Angeles alone.

It’s an honor to have joined President Obama’s initiative “United We Serve”. Since before 2001, the Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity are volunteers, organizations and institutions who share resources to collectively plan Humanitarian Day Projects. During the month of Ramadan, it is an obligation upon Muslims to serve mankind with charity while fasting from the fulfillment of food and water. Oakland H-Day 2009

On September 13, 2009 in Oakland, CA at Poplar Park the 1st Annual, insha ALLAH, Humanitarian Day took form with volunteers from as far as Sacramento. Members from Mu'eed Inc. as well as members from many of the local Masjids such as The Light House Mosque, Masjidul Warith Deen, Masjid Al Islam, Jummatul Salaam, and the Islamic Center of Alameda came together to extend a loving hand, while providing hot meals, hygiene kits, school kits, and infant kits to the residents of the West Oakland community.

Volunteers assembled at 9:30a.m. to discuss the days events, the adab (manners) in which to deal with the recipients of services, and the duties of individual volunteers. From the brothers canvasing the neighboring streets inviting the residents to come and take part, to the sisters greeting each recipient with a loving smile, the volunteers worked together to execute an event in solidarity with The Coalition To Preserve Human Dignity.

The event began at 11a.m. and by 1p.m. the volunteers had distributed kits to approximately 140 residents which exhausted all but our infant kits and provided a hot meal to approximately 200 West Oakland residents. The event was coordinated by Amelah El-Amin Redden the Outreach Coordinator for Mu'eed Inc. and was also supported by I.C.N.A. The Bay Area Chapter.

HUMANITARIAN DAY GHANA ASSIST NEEDY PERSONS IN MAMBOI, GHANA

Coordinators of Humanitarian Day Ghana was ILM Foundation and Bureau for Social Services (BSS), non-governmental organization based in Mamobi a suburb of Accra. This year effort focused on providing food and cash assistance to those disabled, blind, destitute, orphans, students, widows, and divorcees with children, seniors and sick (one in particular suffering from kidney-related problem). For the past two years Humanitarian Day Ghana provided over 400 breast screening, community Ramadan Iftars, educational scholarshp and cash stipens. The recipient of the largest part of the assistance was an undergraduate student pursing Islamic studies in Libya, who received funds to facilitate his homecoming to reunite with his family after almost three years.

Although there has been a substantial overall decline in the incidence of poverty in Ghana poverty still has a firm grip on rural areas, especially in the north. About 51 per cent of the poor people in Ghana live in rural areas. Poor rural people have limited access to basic social services, safe water, all-year roads, electricity and telephone services. Women are deeply affected. More than half of the women who are heads of households in rural areas are among the poorest 20 per cent of the population. Women bear heavy workloads. They are responsible for 55 to 60 per cent of agricultural production. With the above facts the Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity, as social network of volunteers, sponsors and organization committed to establish Humanitarian Day projects in America and abroad, will began to move support beyond the urban areas of Ghana into these much neglected rural areas. The Ar Razaaq Food Pantry under the banner of Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity

(CPHD) has successfully assisted the American public along with Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Texas, as well as Ghana and Indonesia and other domestic sites. The Pantry’s H-Day event took place on Saturday, September 12th. Part of their mission is: “People Serving People for God Sake.” Chairperson for H-Day Kansas City, Alia T. Muhammad says, "H-Day serves those withless without regard to race, gender, or religion, especially during this economic hardship.” The anticipation and spirit was high. The service provided included first, a warm greeting; a warm meal; bottled water; adult hygiene kits; infant kits; school supplies and medical screenings such as rapid HIV testing, blood pressure, diabetes and vital signs. We served 102 adults and perhaps an equal number of young children, whom expressed gratitude to the volunteers.

We thank Allah (SWT), for bestowing mercy in abundance. Allah blessed us with beautiful weather and for the gracious volunteers from the Universal Peace Church in Kansas City, Kansas (Rev. Peeter Saarna’s youth group, “Service for Peace”); members from Al-Inshirah Islamic Center; members from Al-Haqq Islamic Center; KC Free Health Clinic; Kansas City Urban Impact Center; Samuel Rogers Health Clinic; and many other individuals who received an email and just showed up with perishable food items and fresh fruits and healthy 2010 recipe calendars.

We were soooo! thankful for our Al-Inshirah Islamic Center for allowing us to co-host H-Day in their parking lot. This is an area of high need for health information and outreach services. We are thankful to the Muslim businesses, Jerusalem Café and Bakery, India Emporium and Olive Café and Bakery who donated chicken and Lamar’s donuts. It truly made our day when $300 was donated to our food pantry.

Although, the Press did not respond, this humanitarian outreach has left a profound impact between the Muslim community and those less fortunate.

AMHP volunteers organize Health Screening at Humanitarian Day in Inland Empire of southern CA

(Ontario, California) Humanitarian Day, a day dedicated to serve the homeless, was a tremendous success this past Saturday. Despite the overwhelming heat and long weekend, over fifty volunteers dedicated their time and energy towards serving the homeless at the Mercy House, a homeless shelter located in Ontario, CA.

Humanitarian Day has developed into an international phenomenon thanks to the efforts of people like Umar Hakim, a long time organizer of Humanitarian Day. Hakim explained that Humanitarian Day is the result of a social network of volunteers, organizations and institutions that share resources to plan such projects. This network is organized by The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity.

American Muslim Health Professionals (AMHP) had the honor of participating in Humanitarian Day this weekend. AMHP members worked with the Shifa Free Clinic of San Bernadino to organize a large scale health screening. With the effort of about fifteen volunteers stationed at seven booths it was possible to conduct body mass index, blood sugar, blood pressure and vision testing. Additionally, experts in health care including dentists, nutritionists, pharmacists, and Shifa Free Clinic Physicians provided counseling sessions to the participants. Those individuals in need of further care were referred to the Shifa Clinic for free services.

The event was a great success for both the volunteers and participants. Almost 200 people were able to benefit from the services provided at Humanitarian Day. The volunteers’ commitment to making this event a success is best summarized by Iyad Afalqa, the AMHP lead coordinator. Afalqa stated that “This is really when one can relate to what it means to be needy. Today we execute or spiritual strength of Ramadan into physical action and also experience the plight of the needy.”

AMHP is pleased that the event was a success but understands that there is much more work to be done to alleviate the plight of the disenfranchised. Dr. Faisal Qazi, the President of AMHP, commented that “Such opportunities to serve those that are living in the most dire circumstances can never be frequent enough, but while we must continue to provide direct charitable services, we should also strive to make systematic changes in our social settings to benefit those in need.” Dr. Qazi hopes to further AMHP’s commitment to improving access to health care through participating in more projects of this nature. Thus far AMHP has helped organize and participated in nine service projects and four educational forums on health reform as part of the United We Serve Campaign. President Obama initiated this Campaign to call upon all Americans to engage in public services.

It is important to harness the efforts of all those that can donate their time, energy, and/or resources in order to truly accomplish the goals of projects like Humanitarian Day. Naim Shah, the founder of ILM Foundation and a pioneer of the Humanitarian Day project, reminds us that "Reward is granted each of us for good ideas and intentions, but a greater reward is reserved for those who are permitted by God to carry them out in to action."

H-Day is answering President Obama’s “United We Serve” initiative with the Humanitarian Day Campaign of serving 10,000 homeless during the month of Ramadan. ILM Foundation is urging organization to join the Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity which has served nearly 60,000 men - women and children in over 21 U.S. cities since its start in 2001. H-Day’s will respond to assisting the American public in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Texas, Kansas City; as well in Ghana and Indonesia and other domestic sites. CPHD has a domestic concern about issues that affect the entire health of American communities and will utilize its resources in treating it.

Domestic Homeless Awareness Campaign starts in June for Humanitarian Day

Los Angeles June 2009 – The month of June will begin community awareness and education about homelessness in Southern California, regarding its estimated over 68,000 homeless people in Los Angeles County. Several organizations are planning to service the Los Angeles, Long Beach, Inland Empire and Orange County in the month of Ramadan with Humanitarian Day (HD).

Founders and organizer, ILM Foundation whose mission is, “Teaching Life Skills to Replace Social Ills”, will coordinate with community partners for Skid Row’s 10th Annual Humanitarian Day. HD’s domestic events service communities every Ramadan with tangible items, food, hygiene products and medical screenings. “Preserving human dignity is our main service” says Naim Shah Jr, ILM Foundation’s Executive Director. He further states, “Education is very important informing the people will hopefully stimulate more activities in assisting our local governments with this problem.”
The Coalition to Preserve Human Dignity (CPHD) coordinators will include Project Uplift in the Inland Empire, South Central’s Bilal Learning Center, Los Angeles Umma Clinic, Masjid Al Shareef in Long Beach, the Muslim community of Orange County for Santa Ana and Ar Raazaq Food Pantry in Kansas City. These organizations have a domestic concern about issues that affect their communities and will utilize resources in helping it.

Humanitarian Day was founded and established in Los Angeles 9th District and HD has been held in 21 cities across the United States since 2001 servicing over 70,000 people. Two African countries; Ghana and Indonesia have also established HD’s mission to “Convert One Day into a Life’s Mission” and with the help of more sponsoring organizations HD will continue to provide good will found within its service.

Go BEyond The G.A.M.E. is Back!

ILM Foundation is excited to announce the return of the Go Beyond The G.A.M.E. (GBG) All City Football Camp. The camp is entering its ninth year, serving hundreds of students annually and nearly 1,000 since its founding. GBG during that time established several institutional relationships with Santa Monica and Long Beach City College, Stop the Violence Increase the Peace Foundation, UMMA Community Clinic, Dorsey High School, several pop Warner leagues and recently West Adams High School and Los Angeles Southwest College.

The beautiful site for the 2009 GBG Camp is West Adams Preparatory High School, 1500 W. Washington Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90007. It will take place on, Saturday, June 20, 2009. The cost is only $20.00 and registration will began at 8:00 am. Campers will receive a lunch, tee shirt or jersey, other gift items, professional athletic training. The camp coaches will be all current and former college and professional athletes. Community and Academic leaders will be offering student athlete and parent workshops. The UMMA Community Clinic will also provide free medical examinations.

The GBG camp is unique, because the goal is not to just to teach your child excellent athletic techniques. Our goal is to introduce fundamental skills they can use to make better life decisions on and off the field. Many of our campers are in college and a few in the NFL. The 2007 Humanitarian Day Ramadan Projects exceeded our expectations because of the collective participation.

Humanitarian Day California was hosted in four locations, Downtown Los Angeles, South Los Angeles, Pasadena and Santa Ana. Humanitarian Day events hosted after Ramadan will include Long Beach, Jefferson Park, Austin and Houston.

Thank you for the generous contributions from all donors and special thanks to our major sponsors Islamic Center of Irvine and Church of Later Day Saints. Our Ramadan campaign raised nearly $25,000 and served close to 6,000 persons nationally and international.

SANTA ANA, ORANGE COUNTY

On September 27, 2008, Humanitarian Day Orange (HDOC) hosted its first event at the Hall of Administration Building parking lot in the city of Santa Ana. ILM Foundation would like to extend a special thanks to Tareef Nashashibi and Mrs. Jeanine Darrow of Orange County Public Works for coordinating with the city to secure the event permit. HDOC served over three hundred homeless. Many recipients were so appreciative when they received the warm greetings from one of the most spirited groups of Humanitarian Day volunteers. UMMA Community Clinic and Dr. Sophia worked overtime serving the homeless that were suffering from various skin infections and diseases. Imam Ghazaly Salim of the Islamic Center of Santa Ana extended Humanitarian Day by taking the remaining food and water to the local Masjid neighbors. One homeless person was overwhelmed with joy saying, 'The volunteers actually thanked me for coming.' Asif Kazi, HDOC Chair, said " The duty to serve in the cause of Allah SWT is truly a privilege, honor, and probably one of the most rewarding blessings in my own personal life."

SOUTH LOS ANGELES

On September 20, 2008, the Bilal Learning Center and the Los Angeles Latino Muslim Association coordinated Humanitarian Day South Los Angeles on the historic site of Masjid Bilal Islamic Center. Nearly, three hundred residents received warm meals, gift items, school kits, and toddler kits. The community graciously completed surveys and were provided health screening services. ILM Foundation would like to extend a special thanks to event co-coordinators Debra Hasan, Marta Khadijah and Imam Abdul Karim Hasan.

PASADENA

Humanitarian Day Pasadena was coordinated under the leadership of Imam Karim Salih of Masjid At-Taqwa. The effort took place at a local park providing food and health screening services. ILM Foundation would like to thank all the volunteers and sponsors who supported this effort. Imam Karim said, " It is very important that the Pasadena community witness the Muslims caring for the needs of the disadvantaged

GHANA

ILM Foundation partnered with the Bureau of Social Services of Ghana to coordinate its Ramadan Humanitarian Projects. The projects focused on health, food distribution and community development. ILM sponsored Dr. Ghartey, CEO of Mammo Care, to provide a free breast cancer orientation for 300 Muslim women, 200 breast cancer screenings and 50 mammogram examinations. Over a thousand meals were provided to needy families and Muslims to break fast. ILM assisted the Bureau of Social Services in completing a Masjid for residents in a very remote area in the central Region in Ghana. ILM concluded its charitable activity by sponsoring a food distribution to Muslim mentally ill patients and needy families through the Muslim Female Graduate Association.

INDONESIAHumanitarian Day on, September 17, 2008. It is remarkable to witness this development after ILM's first visit to Indonesia in 2006. Humanitarian Day Indonesia (HDI) provided hundreds of families with staple food items such as rice, oil, sugar, teas and other traditional foods at two sites in the city of Yogyakarta (Timoho & Bale Catur). Over two hundred, low income college students were served warm meals while listening to lectures from University professors on Humanitarianism from an Islamic Perspective. The charitable activities concluded by providing fifty scholarships to orphaned children.

What is S.E.E.D?

“Plant the SEED and Pray for Rain” S.E.E.D. is an acronym for Social Empowerment and Economic Development. A created concept out of the ILM Foundation's mission "Teaching Life Skills, to Replace Social Ills".

This concept revolves around our current U.S. recession, In Sha Allah (GodWilling), and what it will take to ensure our future, we should “Plant a SEED and Pray for Rain” and cultivate our areas. A necessary concern we need action on, and Humanitarian Day can help in this effort. In response to this year’s economy and reports on spending, the ILM Foundation will take strategic approaches for fund raising. We are open to suggestions and would love to hear what’s on your mind.

In addition, if the ILM Foundation schedule a conference between now and Ramadan about surviving this economic crunch, would you attend for a reasonable donation? Name an amount you most feel comfortable in giving.
